Welcome to Allen Texas, a small town between McKinney and Plano about 25 minutes from downtown Dallas. Money Magazine named Allen Texas one of the best places to live in 2017. This affluent suburb and home to about hundred thousand residents, has worked hard to create an economic powerhouse. We see that in our nearly $2 billion worth of new development just last year alone. With new tech and cyber security companies relocating to the area, Allen is booming with new jobs and consistent growth. Allen will soon be home to a $91 million convention center and hotel complex and international real estate firms are looking at mixed-use development bringing office space, retail shops, and outdoor activities to our small town.
Up until 1948, Allen was just a stop along the Texas traction companies interurban line and was so small that it didn’t become incorporated until 1953. But since this time, Allen has grown dramatically due to the construction of US Route 75 and the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Neighboring cities of Plano and McKinney have also brought more people to the Allen area.
Allen has its own Independent School District with 18 elementary schools, three middle schools, one freshman center, one alternative education Center, and one high school. The school district serves nearly all of the city. There are small portions of the outlying city limits that extend into Lovejoy, McKinney, and Plano ISD’s. Our new Eagle Stadium, less than six years old is one of our crowning tools and conceit more than 18,000 people.
In 2004, the city purchased Chase Oaks Golf Club and rename the course, the Courses at Watters Creek. This is a public golf course and residents are entitled to discounted fees even though the course itself is with in the Plano border.
Is Allen Right for You?
If Frisco is a little bit too big for you and Prosper is a little too small Allen might be ideal. There are plenty of master-planned communities, gated neighborhoods, single-family homes and even larger lots and acreage. There’s plenty of space to stretch out and have a little spot of land all to yourself.
